Access Create Link To Excel Sheet

This article explains how to create a link from Access to an Excel sheet.


What is it?

A link to an excel sheet will allow access to get certain values from the excel workbook. When the values in the Excel workbook change, so will the values in the Access database.

For example consider the table below:

This table is linked to the Excel sheet below:
Excel sheet
Assume the data in the Excel sheet is changed:
Changed Data
The data in the Access table will change accordingly:

How to?

Step 1: On the External Data ribbon click on the Excel button:

Step 2: Select the path of the Excel file and select the “Link to the data source by creating a linked table”:
