In this article I will explain how you can connect to an external Access database from Excel.
Click on the From Access button on the Data Ribbon:
Locate the Access database:
A dialog will open asking you to choose the Table to connect to:
Note: If you want to connect to more than one table, or to the entire database, you must manually repeat this process for all tables.
From the window that opens you can select how you wan the data to be imported:
- Pivot Table
- Pivot Chart and Table
You can also select where to import the data:
- A specific range in an existing sheet
- A new sheet
In this example I have imported the data as a table:
If changes have been made to the source database you can update them in the excel workbook by clicking on the Refresh All button on the Data ribbon:
Note: The data in the access database must be saved in order for the values to update in the excel workbook
